#MeToo: Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker laud Priya Ramani’s acquittal in MJ Akbar defamation case


Director Onir wrote it was ‘spectacular’ that the courtroom noticed that girls will not be time-bound to return out with their accounts of sexual harassment, an argument that has been in any other case used to discredit their tales. “This is spectacular. A milestone judgement when it comes to sexual harassment. Important that the court points out that it’s not time bound . Amazing #PriyaRamani #Rebeccajon.”

Actor Richa Chadha stated it was ‘justice at last’.

Swara Bhasker gave a shoutout to Priya Ramani and her lawyer Rebecca John. “You go girls! #PriyaRamani #RebeccaJohn (sic),” she wrote.

Actor Maanvi Gagroo stated she was left speechless by the empowering verdict and simply had gratitude for Priya Ramani. “No words really. Just thank you #PriyaRamani & #RebeccaJohn & to all the women fighting the good fight.”

Director Hansal Mehta rued that the bar set is “so low” that persons are celebrating acquittal of the “victim”. “I thought he was convicted for sexual harassment seeing all the glee around. Instead the victim has been acquitted for alleged defamation. We have such low expectations,” Mehta tweeted.

Singer Sona Mohapatra, who was among the many girls from the leisure trade to share their tales of alleged sexual abuse, stated that MJ Akbar’s repute “stinks” and defending it could have meant a disservice to the nation. “Mr MJ Akbar’s reputation is one that stinks. So protecting it would mean harming a whole society & its dignity. This case is one for #India ‘s protection. Not just her women but also all the good people of this country. #ThankYou #PriyaRamani for standing strong. @IndiaMeToo.”

Actor Padampriya quoted a tweet in regards to the case and wrote, “More power to all of us.”

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada, who has accused Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual harassment, reminded his followers of her allegation whereas sharing an excerpt from the courtroom’s judgement that stated it’s doable for a lady to not open up about sexual abuse for years and she or he shouldn’t be punished for it.

“To all the Vairamuthu supporters, new and old,” Sripaada tweeted.

Actor Mini Mathur congratulated each Ramani and her lawyer, Rebecca John, whereas writing that the judgement is a big step for each girl standing as much as highly effective males.

“Priya Ramani is acquitted. The fact that she needed to defend her accusations of harassment against a powerful man not withstanding, this is a huge step forward for women speaking up against sexual harassment. Big shoutout to her lawyer Rebecca John as well #justice,” she wrote.
