The Government Unani Medical College (GUMC), Kashmir has been granted permission to begin the first batch of Bachelors in Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) course from the tutorial session of 2020-21 with an consumption capability of 60 seats, an official spokesman stated.
The Union Ministry of Ayush has issued the “letter of permission” for beginning the course, the spokesman stated.
After suggestions from the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), the Ministry of AYUSH had earlier issued Letter of Intent to begin new Unani Medical College in the identify of Government Unani Medical College and Hospital, Kashmir with 60 seats topic to the achievement of requisite pre-conditions.
Accordingly, the CCIM had carried out an inspection of the Institution on December 1 and forwarded its suggestions and report to the Ministry, which discovered that the faculty is fulfilling notified and accredited criterion for issuing “Letter of Permission” to begin new Unani College, the spokesman stated.

He stated the students both have to go outdoors J-Ok or have to take admission in personal faculties for searching for Ayush medical training.
“In order to impart quality education of Ayurvedic, Unani Systems of Medicine and produce qualified Ayurvedic, Unani graduates, the need for establishment of Ayurvedic, Unani Medical Colleges in Jammu & Kashmir was felt and accordingly proposals for establishing Govt Ayurvedic, Unani Medical colleges were submitted to Government of India in 2008,” he stated.
He stated the Centre in 2009 accredited institution of authorities Ayurvedic Medical College in Jammu and authorities Unani Medical College in Kashmir on 50:50 foundation with an estimated price of Rs 25.80 crore and Rs 32.50 crore, respectively.
He stated the inordinate delay for beginning of first batch of BUMS course was due to the denial of permission by CCIM, Ministry of Ayush for beginning the College due to some deficiencies and concurrently a rider for 2 years was positioned by CCIM for submitting of recent proposals for opening up of new Unani Colleges.
The Financial Commissioner stated 129 posts of educating and non-teaching employees have already been created for the faculty and the commercial for filling obligatory posts on tutorial association foundation has been issued until the posts are crammed regularly.
