Bassam Tariq is in talks to direct Mahershala Ali-starrer Blade


Filmmaker Bassam Tariq, identified for his work on Riz Ahmed-led film Mogul Mowgli, is in negotiations with Marvel Studios to direct the movie adaptation of the favored comedian Blade. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is set to play the titular vampire hunter.

According to Variety, if Tariq comes on board, he would be the sixth individual of color to direct a film for Marvel Studios, becoming a member of Ryan Coogler, Chloe Zhao, Destin Cretton, Taika Waititi and Nia DaCosta.

Playwright Stacy Osei-Kuffour is writing the script of the movie with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing. Created by author Marv Wolfman, Blade first made an look in the 1973 comedian ebook The Tomb of Dracula #10 as a supporting character.

He is a vampire hunter–half-mortal, half-immortal–who tries to free the world from vampires as a method of avenging his mom, who was killed by a vampire as she gave delivery to him.

The character turned widespread when New Line tailored the comedian in 1998 with Wesley Snipes on board to star and adopted the hit movie with two sequels in 2002 and 2004. Actor-rapper Sticky Fingaz performed the half in the 2006 tv collection.
