Amitabh Bachchan’s Baghban almost starred Dilip Kumar and Rakhee in lead roles


Dilip Kumar and Rakhee almost starred in the favored 2003 drama Baghban, producer Renu Chopra has revealed. While talking to the Times of India, she stated that Dilip and Rakhee have been the primary alternative for the roles, which have been lastly performed by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini on display.

“My father-in-law was supposed to make that film with Dilip Kumar and Rakhee, but she opted out and later he fell ill. It never got made,” she instructed the publication.

Directed by Ravi Chopra, Baghban, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, was the story of an aged couple who’ve been married for 4 many years. After the retirement of Amitabh’s character, they organise a gathering involving their 4 sons and their households to determine which son they are going to stick with. To their disappointment, no one desires them and this forces them to remain individually with two sons.

Renu added, “Some changes were made in the script, the story was made to look contemporary with Valentine’s Day but the essence of the subject was retained. Ravi did invite Dilip Kumar for the mahurat of the film but he had begun to keep unwell and was confined to the wheelchair. When we did go to invite them for the mahurat, Saira remembered the entire story of the film that was narrated to Dilip saab. All the scenes were embedded in her mind and she was impressed with the romance of the elderly couple.”

Baghban additionally starred Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry.
